The GDAS Foshan Industrial Technology Research Institute was established in October 2018. It was set up by the Guangdong Academy of Sciences to deeply implement an innovation-driven development strategy and build a comprehensive long-chain industrial technology innovation center. It was co-founded with the Foshan municipal government as a new type of R&D institution integrating 'proof of concept, pilot R&D, technology incubation, equity investment, and industrial services,' with a clear focus on 'technology and industry.' It is also the first industrial technology research institute that the Guangdong Academy of Sciences has established locally.

Over the 7 years since its founding, the institute has actively promoted the implementation and transfer of strategic, cutting-edge, and disruptive technological achievements in Foshan, supporting the development of emerging industries and the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries in the region. It has become a well-known local platform for technology transfer. Currently, it has 8 full-chain incubation carriers covering nearly 70,000 square meters and has incubated over 170 tech companies. The total valuation of its invested tech projects exceeds 2 billion yuan. It has been approved as a national-level tech enterprise incubator, a postdoctoral workstation, and one of the first pilot platforms certified by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
